In February 2018, President Trump will be visiting Britain on official business to open the new U.S. embassy in London. According to the Daily Mail newspaper though, he will not be invited to meet Queen Elizabeth after nearly 2 million people signed a petition arguing that his visit would “cause embarrassment to the Queen.”
Ever since British Prime Minister Theresa May encouraged Trump for a country visit, there has been plenty of controversy surrounding the visit.
Close to two million citizens have signed a petition stating that Trump’s invitation ought to be retracted because it “would cause embarrassment” to the Queen, and there are certain to be a great number of protests, posing both security and traffic problems.
The relationship between Britain and the United States has been strained during the past few months, particularly as a result of a Twitter feud between Trump and May lately after he criticized him for posting anti-Islamic videos.
Britain has always viewed its close ties with Washington as a “special relationship”, especially now as the nation prepares to leave the European Union.
